Taylor Swift recounts ‘nightmare’ audition with Eddie Redmayne for ‘Les Misérables’
Weeks before her debut single ‘You Need to Calm Down’ debuted at the top of the iTunes chart in the United States, Swift took a moment in her mind to tell a friend about the auditions that led to her dream role: “The only audition that really sucked was the one I had for Les Mis. There was a casting company out there that was looking for a blond, blue-eyed, and beautiful boy. When I walked in for my audition, it was a nightmare. I was terrified — what if all of those things came true?
“I wanted to be a boy, and I really tried to be a boy, and I didn’t really seem to be. He didn’t look like a boy at all. He had this weird hair thing going on and he wasn’t wearing a suit. I ended up with a pretty good casting decision and he looked like a sexy hunk.”
Swift is now back to being just as beautiful as she was as a brunette, but the experience still had an effect on her dreams of singing “You Need to Calm Down” with a boy, she said, “I can’t go through that again!” As for how she would handle a movie musical — she said she would have “an intense conversation with [producer] Ryan Murphy” — she had another idea in mind, saying, “I just don’t know if I could see myself doing it in that way. I love to be in front of the camera, so if I ever did that, I think it would be more as a director.”
She also gave us the story of when she first met Chris Martin, who would go on to become the lead singer of Coldplay. “I got a meeting at his house and I walked in and the first thing he said to me was, ‘You have the most gorgeous eyes I’ve ever seen!’ I was like, ‘That’s great,’ and then he said, ‘I want to marry you’ and he told me this story about going to a party with four girls. His best friends were at the party, and one of those girls was this ball
